Madonnari is a street painting originated in 16th century Italy. It is called because many of the paintings featured Madonna.

The first competition was held in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy. The first US festival was held in Santa Barbara, CA as benefit to Children’s Creative Project.

In US, there are many other Madonnari festivals are held under the name of “Chalk Art Festival,” including “Chocolate and CHalk Art Festival” in Berkeley, CA, “Pasadena Chalk Festival” in CA and “Chalk Art Festival” in Utah.
